How To Repurpose Your Content For Maximum Exposure

Untitled design

Content is just an idea. The media format is it’s packaging.

There is no reason why an idea in a blog post can’t be repurposed into a handful of other media. Think about it this way. Your blog will only reach so many people. However, if you turn your blogpost into a slideshare presentation, you have access to a much bigger audience.

I recently did this as an experiment. You are probably familiar with my popular post about how to create a winning ppc strategy.

I turned that blog post into a slideshare presentation.

The Key To a Winning PPC Advertising Strategy from David Melamed

There are also dozens of other websites you can host presentations on, leading to an even broader audience. Once you have a slideshare presentation, you can easily add a soundtrack and turn it into a video. Youtube actually has a slideshow tool that will do all the work for you, all you need to do is upload the slides and choose a track. You can customize it more with transitions, but all you really need is to upload the images.

Here it is.

But Wait, There’s more…

That first presentation was created by myself with Google Drive presentations. I am an amateur designer. So, I went on Odesk and found a presentation designer. He is awesome and only charges me around $15 an hour. All he does is presentations.

Here is his more professional version.

So, now I have one blog post turned into two slideshare presentations and a Youtube video.

But wait a second, I could even turn those slideshare presentations into a new one showing the difference between professional and amateur presentation design.

You see what I did here. I took one idea, one concept, one blog post and managed to turn it into 4 different and new pieces of content. Content that can act as a net to build my audience and bring me customers.

Those presentations have almost 2700 views. Thats 2700 more people that my blog might not be reaching on it’s own.

This is just phase 1. I can easily turn this into a whitepaper hosted on docstoc or even an infographic. I can turn it into an audio recording hosted on Soundcloud, or use the audio as a voice over on a video. You are so many containers you can put your content into and each can draw in their own audience.

The best authors and speakers pretty much say the same thing, they just found new ways to say it. They basically have one unified theory and see the world through that filter.

Mastering the art of repurposing your content will put you in great company and reach a much broader audience.

Remember, people want to consume content in their own way. So, give the the choice of how to consume your content and you will come out ahead.

This is a great reminder that content isn’t stuck in the first form that we create it in, and also that something you come up with that doesn’t work out in one media might be perfect for another. It also makes me second guess the ideas that I’ve thrown away, ideas that I may have been able to adapt if I’d actually sat down and given it some thought, because all that resulted in was denying myself possible results. I totally love that you’re able to move some of your content around and between mediums, but how often do you find that things change from one form or another when you’re still in the planning process?
